Megan:
I never thought I’d be writing a review of a product that was essentially a lip gloss - I’m the girl who stopped wearing lip gloss in high school because I couldn’t deal with my hair getting stuck to it… So, for years singing along to that “my lip gloss is poppin’, my lip gloss is cool” song felt like I was living a lie - until recently when I had an epiphany: I have a pixie cut! I mean obviously, I knew I have a pixie cut, the epiphany was actually that MY HAIR IS TOO SHORT TO GET STUCK IN MY LIPGLOSS! Mind blown. So, problem solved, I can wear lip gloss now. I will admit we’re like two years into the pixie cut so it’s a bit late to be having this epiphany, but better late than never I suppose!
While not the first lip gloss I’ve added to my makeup bag since this epiphany, there was just something about the Melted Latex ones that caught my eye. I’m a sucker for a bold lip colour and these have the pretty epic shade range, which makes the promise of highly pigmented super shiny lip colour that’s got some staying power - I couldn’t resist! No seriously, I bought five. Not all at once, I only bought four in one shot so I had some willpower. Not much, but some! I think I should get some credit for that - plus I had a Sephora gift card! And they’re only $12. Yup, you heard me right, $12. Do you really blame me? Rachel also picked one up!
The ones I picked up were:
Love U, Mean It - coral pink
I’m Bossy - cool red
Hot Mess - pink berry
Can’t Touch This - deep plum
Bite Me - deep red
Rachel picked up:
Love You Long Time - cool pink
So far, I’ve only worn four out of the five colours I picked one up, but I’m pretty in love with the ones I’ve tried out! The only one I haven’t tried is Can’t Touch This, I just haven’t found the right occasion for it yet - the name is fantastic though. Actually, all the names are fantastic, which just makes me like the product more! The packaging is super cute too.
These wear really well - they aren’t as sticky as the name might suggest, melted latex sounds like its going to be insanely sticky but instead they’re more like you’ve coated your lips in a lip balm like coating. Not like BurtsBees but like Blistex or the Clinique pep start lip mask or something, and they’re quite moisturizing too!
The best part about these is how pigmented these are - they pack a major colour punch and when they do inevitably wear off, they leave a really pretty stain behind! Even the next morning I’ve woken up with colour still on my lips, which is proof positive of a good lip colour. The applicator makes it really easy to apply too, apparently it was specially designed to give you the best even application of the product every time. This is a product I would absolutely pay more than $12 for, so it’s a steal at the price and I’ve had to resist the urge to go back and buy a bunch more… Willpower, babes, willpower. But you all should go out and pick them up so that I can live vicariously through you!
I will say that I did end up getting a hair in it the first time I used it - not my own hair though, Elvis is a big fan of lip gloss so that’s a thing… So, the only real downside I found with this product is that it really does trap hair well, but I feel like longer hair would be easier to extract!
Rachel:
Shockingly, my opinions about this are basically identical to Meg's. I did only purchase one color (Love You Long Time - cool pink) not because I didn't want more but because the Sephora bag was already full (I have a problem, I admit it).
The pink was perfect, it was exactly what I wanted. No chance of it being mistaken for a pastel that's for sure. I think this is the kind of pink and texture of a lip gloss that will look good on almost anyone. It can be dressed down and holy crap can it be dressed up.
However, unlike Meg I have long hair. And there is a lot of it. I'm an avid lip gloss wearer so I know what I'm getting into when I put it on, but as you can imagine with a name like melted latex this is pretty damn sticky. That is the only reason my versatility score is so low, because if you have long hair like me and aren't comfortable with your hair up this product isn't for you.
On the bright side, when you have your hair in a bun this lip color gives you the pop you desire and need!
