Top 10 Animated Villains
By: Rachel & Megan - Voted by all BABC Ladies
We love a good villain, a bad guy that you love to hate. It’s one thing to be a bad guy in an action movie, but to be a bad guy in an animated movie is particularly impressive. Sometimes watching a cartoon can be so much better, sometimes it's what you need.
For those times we’ve created our Top 10 Animated Villains list –
*Possible spoilers
(10) Randall – Monsters Inc.
Even being able to turn invisible can’t make Randall’s ego disappear - he’s an asshole with an inferiority complex, and he’s willing do whatever it takes to be the best, including hurt Boo. Who could hurt Boo?! She’s the cutest thing ever! Always lurking in the shadows, he’s just a seriously creepy dude.
(9) Gaston – Beauty and the Beast
We all know the type: the stereotypical macho man who can’t stand to have his fantasy of being irresistible challenged - then he gets nasty and does things like throw your book in a mud puddle or try to have your father thrown in the asylum unless you marry him or lead an angry mob to try to kill your one true love… Plus he’s on that concerning lifter diet that involves eating five dozen eggs and he’s unreasonably hairy. Ugh.
(8) Mother Gothel – Tangle
This woman is the overprotective, overbearing mother on steroids! Never mind the fact that she’s actually centuries old, insanely vain, selfish and willing to do anything to stay young and beautiful forever: including kidnap, lie, steal, manipulate… Plus has anyone else ever noticed that she’s only ever affectionate towards Rapunzel’s hair? Creepy. And she tries to stand in the way of true love. Not cool, Mother Gothel, not cool.
(7) King Candy – Wreck It Ralph
Part of being a great villain is making yourself unrecognizable as one. King Candy has this down. Firstly, his name is King Candy. When I picture a king of candy I just picture a gummy bear wearing a crown. But, he presents as this adorable little king with a lolly pop for a scepter. But, actually he's a real shit. He's horrible to his subjects but particularly Vanellope. Once you've figured out that villainous plot you find a whole new layer. A villain who can play two villains at once while maintaining a third good rep is pretty epic. King Candy 100% earned his spot on our list.
(6) Lots-O-Huggin Bear – Toy Story 3
This stuffed bear may look cute, and he may smell like strawberries but don’t let this fool you. This pink bear is a real asshole. If you haven’t seen Toy Story 3 (this is a crime, and you need to fix this right now), this snuggly bear is a classic villain. He pretends to be the good guy with a big heart but as the film progresses you realize he’s a scorned fuzzy dictator.
(5) Hades – Hercules
There’s something about Hades that we like. He’s got a sick sense of humor and we’re a fan. But, at the end of the day he’s been trying to kill his nephew since birth and that’s the makings of an epic bad guy. His outrageous lies and secrets push the movie forward, but trying to kill baby Hercules is unforgivable.
(4) Cruella De Vil – 101 Dalmations
If you’re even questioning why Cruella De Vil is on this list you need to re-think your priorities. She is a woman who wants to kill and skin PUPPIES! What did puppies ever do to her? She’s horrible to her hench men and she wants puppies for a fur coat, not okay. NOT OKAY. Now, that we think about it we’re not sure that this movie is really suitable for children.
(3) Scar – Lion King
I think we can all agree that Lion King is the best. It has everything, drama, a love story, great songs and one seriously malicious villain. Trying to murder your nephew seems to be a theme on this list. Scar is a friend to no one. He takes solo theatrics to a whole new level but he's unforgivable and deserves the number three spot on our list.
(2) Hans – Frozen
You may be thinking that the number two spot may be to high for Hans. But, think about it he was made for epic villain status, you NEVER saw him coming. And if you say you did, we both know you're lying. But, we'll forgive you. He's manipulative, cunning and ambitious. You get a bit of his back story, which shows all the makings of a villain. His power struggle paired with his great song show that he is an epic animated villain.
(1) Ursula – The Little Mermaid
This spot rightfully goes to URSULA (imagine that in a King Triton voice). She is smart, charismatic and bad. That is a scary combination. She some how manages to convince poor mer-people to make a "deal" with her but they always lead to her benefit. BUT, they always come back. While this is horrible, DAMN she's good. Her hench men are two electric eels, which makes for one bold statement. Ursula's ruthless nature and catchy songs guarantee that she is one of the most memorable villains out there animated or not. She never lets anything or anyone stand in her way. She will take you out if she needs to. Ursula is the scariest thing in the sea, and we're sure she'll be scaring adults and kids for a long time.
