Top 5 Jessica Chastain Movies
I love movies, and I see a lot of them. I’m someone who could be completely uninterested in a movie but if I read that an actress or actor I like is in it I will most likely change my mind. Jessica Chastain is one of those actresses for me.
Jessica Chastain was born in Sacramento, California. She fell in love with dance at age 9 and joined a dance troupe by age 13. She started performing in stage plays, and her focus shifted. An actor in one of her plays encouraged her to apply to Julliard as an acting major. She was actually given a scholarship by one of the school’s alumni, Robin Williams.
While she had many roles on TV and the stage coming out of Julliard her big year was definitely 2011, where she was nominated for her role in The Help.
But, most importantly she has a three-legged puppy which I’m just saying makes her even more loveable.
I had a bit of a hard time narrowing down her film successes, but I managed it don’t you worry!
5. The Help
Character: Celia Foote
This entire movie is just amazing. It will have you feeling every feeling you have. Jessica Chastain plays Celia Foote, Celia is new to Jackson and is an immediate outsider. She is charming, sweet, and you can’t help but fall in love with her. She also has a bad ass hidden inside of her. Chastain is perfectly believably as this character. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Celia, her on screen chemistry with Octavia Spencer who plays Minny was classic.
Jessica Chastain brought depth to a character that could have come off extremely ditzy. She helps Celia walk right into your heart.
4. Interstellar
Character: Murph
Now, I don’t want to give to much away because this movie comes with many twists. But, you do get to see Murph at different ages, but my favourite Murph is the one played by Jessica Chastain (of course). This movie is great, and totally earned the large mountain of praise it got. For me, I felt like Chastain actually got to stretch her emotional capabilities in this film, which I was thrilled about. She will have you feeling every that Murph is feeling and its heart breaking but at the same time empowering. Which is a super tricky combination for anyone, but Chastain conquers that without a second glance.
I think it takes a special kind of actress to be so memorable in a story such as this.
3. The Huntsman: Winter’s War
Character: Sara
I will warn you she has an accent in this one. A Scottish accent. While some people think Jessica Chastain may have mangled the accent, I think she did fabulous. Speaking as someone who can’t do an accent without sounding like a muppet I was very impressed. I was not a huge fan of the first movie in this series but mainly due to Kristen Stewart not the story. However, when I found out that Jessica Chastain would be in the second I felt much better about giving this story line a chance again.
Chastain plays a bad ass female Huntsman and trust me she is freaking BAD ASS. The action is great, she brings the kick ass that this movie really needed. Her connection with Chris Hemsworth seems organic and loving. She is able to show the soft side to such a bad ass character and it was beautiful. This movie was stacked with hard core females like Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron, but Jessica Chastain does not become forgotten. I would highly recommend this movie for all kinds of reasons, but especially because of the female bad ass-ness (that’s a word I swear).
2. Zero Dark Thirty
Character: Maya
This movie is the definition of intense. And Jessica Chastain meets that intensity completely, she plays Maya a devoted female operative who is instrumental in the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden after the September 11th terrorist attack.
I couldn’t believe the difference in Chastain in this movie, her force and strength is not something I think she was able to show off before this film. I will warn you that this movie is not for everyone, there are some very graphic scenes, but it is so well done it’s scary.
1. Molly’s Game
Character: Molly Bloom
This movie was not as big as it should have been, and that fact really bothers me. Megan and I were shocked how great this was. Jessica Chastain plays Molly Bloom, an ex Olympic skier who ends up running the most exclusive and sought after high-stakes poker game. This movie is based on a true story, when Molly is arrested in the middle of the night by FBI agents she is immediately thrown into the tabloids. Her only ally is her attorney who is played by Idris Elba.
Chastain and Elba play off each other wonderfully. And Chastain has you believing that she really is Molly Bloom. She brings this story to life better than anyone I could imagine. She also isn’t a ginger in this movie which brings a whole new look to her and this character.
If you haven’t seen this movie you need to. Like right now. You can finish reading this post later, I’m just kidding (kinda) but you really should see this, Jessica Chastain is at her best all the way around.
