Top 10 Summer Romance Movies

Ah! The summer romance! A true movie must have, summer fun, warm nights all wrapped up with a little cheesy-ness to make us all smile. We here at BABC love a good summer fling, and these movies sum up everything we love about them.

Here is our Top 10 Summer Romance Movies –

(10) Safe Haven

Nothing sums up a summer romance movie better than a blooming new romance in a small town. Safe Haven is the story of Katie (Julianne Hough) who moves to a small-town on the North Carolina coast to start a new life. She plans to keep to herself, but the small-town community slowly brings her in especially Alex (Josh Duhamel) a widowed dad. This story surprisingly takes a dark turn with a twist you don’t normally see in a summer romance movie. Safe Haven’s unique charm is what earns its spot on our list.

(9) Adventureland

When James (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to take a job at a local amusement park instead of travelling to Europe he is less than impressed. That is until he meets Em (Kristen Stewart). This quirky romantic comedy set in the 80s is a hilarious new take on the summer romance. And as an added bonus it’s one of the only movies we actually enjoy Kristen Stewart. This movie takes you through the summer with the amusement park team which includes Ryan Reynolds and Kristen Wig to name a few. This little known movie is one that should be seen if you’re in the mood for a different kind of summer love.

(8) Dear John

People never think that a summer romance could really last past the summer. But, Dear John is one of those movies that has us believing. Soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) meets optimistic Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) the connection is instant, and it begins their strong romance. After the summer has passed, John gets deployed forcing the couple to keep their relationship alive through letters. This movie will pull at your heart strings and will stir up all the feels but we promise you it’s totally worth it.

(7) 500 Days of Summer

Well, the title may have given this one away, but not only does Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) fall head over heals in love in summer but with a girl named Summer (Zooey Deschanel). This movie is a major example of opposites attracting. When the relationship doesn’t go Tom’s way he reflects on the past 500 days of his and Summer’s relationship. This isn’t your every day summer romance, it’s a deep movie that will get you thinking about the relationships in your life. 500 Days of Summer is the perfect number 7 for our list.

(6) Letters to Juliet

When Sofie, a writer (Amanda Seyfried, she’s good at this summer romance thing) takes an early honeymoon over the summer with her busy, busy fiancé she isn’t expecting that it will take her on an adventure of a lifetime. The funny thing is, it isn’t with her fiancé. While in Verona, Italy she meets Juliet’s Secretaries, a group of women who answer the letters that heart broken people write and leave for Juliet. Finding a letter from 1957, inspires Sofie to help a woman who has waited too long to find love. And of course this wonderful woman has a disapproving and always sarcastically funny grandson. This movie is heart-warming, and if you haven’t seen it you really should.

(5) The Last Song

Disruptive Ronnie Miller (Miley Cyrus), is forced to spend the summer with her father who is living in a small beach town. Still struggling with her parents’ separation, Ronnie is now in a long term argument with her mother about her not so accepted acceptance to Juilliard music school. In a constant state of rage, she is taken aback when she meets Will (Liam Hemsworth) and things start to change. Everything about this movie screams classic summer romance and it lives up to that descriptor!

(4) The Notebook

Listen, this movie is not just a summer romance movie, but is probably THE romance movie of our generation... and it’s just plain beautiful. What starts as a fling between a rich girl in town for the summer and a boy from the wrong side of the tracks in the 1940s turns into a lifelong romance story that never fails to leave us in tears! But in the best possible way: if you’re a bird babes, we’re a bird!

(3) Dirty Dancing

Nobody puts Baby in the corner! And nobody could leave Dirty Dancing off this list - we definitely couldn’t! The ultimate teenage summer romance: it’s her last chance summer before joining the Peace Corps., but instead of living it up, Baby ends up at a boring summer resort with her family... Enter Patrick Swayze, who sweeps her off her feet (literally, since he’s the resort dancing instructor) and gives us the dance moment of our dreams! And if you don’t know what we’re talking about, you need to watch this movie ASAP!

(2) Highschool Musical 2

Ah the High School Musical franchise does it again! This movie takes the teenage summer romance movie up a notch as only a Disney Channel movie could: it has romances where some are mutual, some are a bit more one-sided (cough Sharpay and Troy cough); musical numbers (of course) and some seriously melodramatic action dancing on a golf course... If you’re looking for something cute, fun and a little bit ridiculous to brighten up your day, check this one out!

(1) Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

When four incredibly close best friends go their separate ways for the summer it takes them down four completely different paths. What keeps them together they ask? Well it’s a magical pair of jeans, that fits all of them perfectly. More than one summer romance is formed, and the pants and letters help the girls keep their connection alive and well. This movie is about friendship, love and the wonders of summer. We couldn’t love this movie more! Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is without a doubt our number one summer romance movie.
