Rachel's Top 5 Zoe Saldana Movies

The first movie I ever saw Zoe Saldana in would have to be Crossroads. Which if you’ve been keeping up with our BABC Top 10 lists you’ll know it’s one of our favourite movies.

Zoe was born in Passaic, New Jersey on June 19th, 1978. When she was 10 years old her family packed up and moved to the Dominican Republic. While living their she fell in love with dance and attended the respected ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy. This is what catapulted her love of the stage and the theatre.

She always seems to make a movie better with her powerful presence, she has quickly become one of my most favourite actresses.

It took me awhile to just pick 5 of her movies to feature, but just for you babes I was able to narrow it down.

Movie: Death at a Funeral Released: 2010 Movie Genre: Comedy Character Name: Elaine

This movie makes me laugh to begin with, and if you’re in the mood for a goofy comedy I highly recommend it. It’s one of my favourite Zoe Saldana movies because I feel like it actually shows how funny she can really be. Her comedic timing in this film is excellent and she brings a ton to the story line.

Movie: Star Trek (Franchise) Released: 2009 - 2016 Movie Genre: Action/Sci-Fi Character: Uhura

Now, as many of you know I’m a bit of an undercover nerd, and I have loved Star Trek for as long as I can remember. When they announced that they would be releasing a new Star Trek I was a little nervous, I loved Uhura who was originally played by Nichelle Nichols. When I heard that it was Zoe Saldana who would be playing a young Uhura it was perfect. She could not have been more perfect, she continued to bring the bad ass-ness that Uhura so deserves.

Movie: Colombiana Released: 2011 Movie Genre: Action/Drama Character: Cataleya

This movie is one of my favourite action movies. This has a great deal to do with Zoe Saldana, who plays the lead character. This movie has a darker side to it, and she slides into this role perfectly. The acting is great, and the action is crazy good. As per usual Zoe brings a realistic grit to every action scene and it makes this movie.

Movie: The Losers Released: 2010 Movie Genre: Action, Thriller, Comedy Character: Aisha

There is a good chance that you’ve never heard of this movie, few people have BUT it is amazing! Based on a comic book, this movie has action, comedy, mystery and so much more. Zoe Saldana plays Aisha a mysterious woman, who seems to have the answer to all your criminal questions. She adds a dynamic to this cast that I’m not sure many actresses could.

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (Franchise) Released: 2014 – 2017 Movie Genre: Sci-Fi, Action, Comedy Character: Gamora

When you combine a comic book movie with a sci-fi story, in my eyes you have a film that is pretty close to flawless. Zoe Saldana deserves so many props for these films for so many reasons, but let’s start with the fact that she had to be painted green head to toe every day. There is no one I could imagine playing Gamora other than her. I feel like this movie brings out the best in Zoe Saldana, she gets to be funny which I don’t think she gets enough credit for AND she get’s to play a bad ass woman who could literally kick anyone’s ass.
