If He Can’t Destroy It, No Dog Can

Product Name: CoreStrength Ball Brand: KONG Size: Large

Price: $12 - $15 Where: Pet Valu, PetSmart, Amazon, a lot of online dog toy carriers have this product

There are very few things in this world that Tucker loves more than a ball. He loves them so much that he destroys most of them within 5 minutes. He doesn’t just love to play fetch with them but he really likes to chew them.

He’s a gentle giant but when it comes to his chewing he’s the toughest chewer I’ve ever seen. It took awhile to find bones that he wouldn’t tear through let alone a ball. He has one red ball that is his faithful ball that seems to be holding up fine. We’ve only had to replace it once.

However, when I was looking for the dogs Easter presents (yes puppies deserve Easter gifts too) I stumbled across the CoreStrength Ball from KONG. Now, all four dogs have KONG products and they’ve held up super well so when I saw the packaging I was hopeful. When I pulled the package off the hook I was expecting it to be squishy, but when I went to squeeze it, it was hard as a rock. I immediately thought of Tucker.

The ball has a multi-layered core that is meant to be long lasting, and tough for chewers like Tucker. Not only is it multi-layered but then it’s reinforced which is why there was an epic push back when I tried to squish it. The outside coating around the ball is textured with little letters, which is good for the dogs’ teeth and gums during the chew sessions that this ball was about to endure.

The store that we were in only had one ball for each size bracket; I went with the large size and it was around $15 with tax.

It seemed like a good choice for Tucker but honestly, I didn’t care if it actually lived up to it’s name. I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen the look of pure joy on a dog’s face when they get a new toy but if you amplify that by 20 that’s what Tucker looks like if you give him a new ball. The reaction is enough for us, and either way I’d resigned myself to the fact that it probably wouldn’t last long.

Easter came, and he was so excited when he opened his ball, we played fetch with it for a little and then he began to chew. I waited for it to crack, or for him to start pulling the outside away from the core like he’s done in the past. But, that never happened. It’s been two months and this ball is still championing along.

Nala takes this from time to time and she hasn’t managed to do much damage either. I have to say I’m stunned and pleasantly surprised. While this ball doesn’t look like much, it’s bright blue and green, it’s a thorough product. For once something actually lived up to it’s label of “good for tough chewers”

If you have a puppy or dog that is a known toy wrecker I would highly recommend this ball. It’s not the cutest toy I’ve ever seen but Tucker loves it and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase.
