I’m going to be completely honest with you, this is an oh my goodness emotional movie. And the fact that this is based on a true story makes it that more touching. When five-year-old Saroo becomes lost on the Indian train system far away from home this throws him into a natural disaster of a life until he is adopted. The movie begins with grown up Saroo, who at the start has no memory of his life before he was lost. You follow him through his determined journey to get that memory back. Dev Patel could not have been more brilliant. This movie rightfully claims it spot on our list.

What happens when you fall in love with the sexiest legend out there? Well, that is exactly what this movie is about. This is set in 1956 when Marilyn Monroe visited England to shoot "The Prince and the Showgirl". Colin a young production assistant on the movie writes a story about the week he spent and fell in love with Marilyn Monroe. This movie has a way of totally pulling you in and you just can’t help but cross you fingers for the underdog. This movie completely earned it’s spot on our list.

Let us be clear, Coach Carter was the coach that we all probably needed. And Samuel L. Jackson drives the real-life character straight into our hearts. Coach Carter is the story of a coach (of course) that comes back to his old high school to honestly get the school’s basketball teams shit together. This movie and story is the exact example of what tough looks like and why it’s needed.

Young Julia Roberts at her best - this is the ultimate underdog story: single mother of three takes on the big bad energy corporation? We know who we’re rooting for! This movie has the added bonus of Erin Brockovich herself giving its accuracy a score of 98%, so you know you’re getting the real deal! That aside, it’s as heartwarming as it is satisfying and if you haven’t seen it, you should definitely check it out!
(6) Remember the Titans
I know you think you think you’ve seen the ultimate sports fan before but trust us when we say they don’t even come close to the people of Alexandria. The film is based on the story of the small-town Alexandria in Virginia and when their school board forces an all black high school with an all white high school. This changes their celebrated football traditions, and every story in this film is one that should be heard. This cast is stacked, Denzel Washington, Petey Jones, Ryan Gosling, we could go on and on. If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s an important one and you should drop everything right now and go watch it. Just be prepared for your feels to get hit real hard.

Quiet, thought-provoking and powerful, Spotlight tells the story of the Boston Globe uncovering decades of cover-ups within the Catholic Church. With a powerhouse cast, this movie delivers up incredible performances and brings us along as a community comes to terms with horrors long unspoken - it’s no wonder it won Best Picture and earned a spot on this list!

What happens when a strong willed powerful woman finds a homeless teen with the biggest hear and untapped football potential? You get The Blind Side. When Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) is taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) and her family the manage to change each other’s lives in ways neither party realized they needed. This film is unbelievably heart warming, it’s a shining example of what someone can do when they are believed in. You will fall in love with this film and it’s characters, that we can guarantee.

These women are bad ass babes in their own right - three black women working for NASA in the 60s, who are all incredibly brilliant in their own fields? Um, yes please. This movie is heartwarming, inspiring and never fails to put a smile on our faces and give us chills. It managed to bring to life a story that not many people recognized. It deserves every accolade that came its way, including its place on this list!
(2) 8 Mile
8 Mile is the real-life story of how Eminem became Eminem. So much so that he actually plays himself in the film. This takes you back to when Jimmy Smith (Eminem) was a struggling rapper trying to make it. The film outlines a particularly important week in this rapper’s life, and how it defined him. We don’t want to give to much away just in case you haven’t seen this (that is a serious problem if it’s true), but this film is as real and raw as it gets.
