Sephora Dos & Don’ts

Something that I always say when I make a mistake or a “stupid” decision is that now that I’ve done it YOU don’t have too.

I thoroughly believe that any wisdom learned should be shared.

With that being said, we put our big girl panties on and we present to you…

SEPHORA DOS & DON'TS

ASHLEY

Do:

  • Try on your concealer before you leave the store; you don’t want to leave the store thinking you got the right colour for your skin, only to go home and realize that you’ll have to blend the concealer in by putting it all over your body. Don’t do it, trust me.

  • Go to the store as early in the day as possible. Unless you want to wait in line while looking at the random products debating if you really need that super cute tissue pack or that pack of nail polish that you most definitely have three of at home, go early. It saves you time and money… mostly money.

Don’t:

  • Lean too close to the make up counters; you will get makeup on your pants, and your friends will laugh at you.

  • Let lipstick dry on your hand while testing it. Unless you want your hand to look like the colours of a pink rainbow, make sure you take the lipstick off before you are branded by Sephora forever (or for at least a few hours).

  • Go to Sephora right after payday. That is a dangerous idea. You will go home with bags and bags of product that you actually don’t need, but just because your head is saying “make it rain at Sephora” doesn’t always mean that your bank account feels the same.

RACHEL

Do:

  • Try a lipstick color you normally wouldn’t. You honestly never know what will suit you until you try it. That’s one of the beauties of Sephora. It gives you the ability to try before you buy. (Rhyming makes it true.)

  • Check the name of the lipstick before you buy it – It happens to all of us, we go to the washroom when we’re out to re-apply and another girl compliments you and asks you what the color is called. You want to know then and there whether or not the name is good enough to share. I’d tell another girl I was wearing Ruby Woo but I don’t know if I’d tell her I was wearing something like Thorny Walrus.

Don’t:

  • Try on all the perfumes – Listen I get it the bottles are pretty and you like all the smells (separately), but if you keep trying them and layering them all on you end up smelling like a confused air freshener. It’ll leave you with a headache for at least a good hour.

  • Sit on the stools in front of the mirrors – You’re going on hour two in Sephora, you’re not even half way through and you see a stool out of the corner of your eye. I know it looks good now, but it’s not. Not only will you most likely fall off the stool once seated because it is not a reasonable structure. But all of a sudden there will be 15 Sephora employees asking you way too many questions. The girl with the amazing blue lipstick (there is always one) is convincing you to purchase all of these products you didn’t know you needed. Sorry wallet, I just wanted a seat.

  • Try on the white lipstick – NO.

MEGAN

Do:

  • Keep an eye out for sales online! You can pick up a bunch of products at a discount and possibly find an unexpected new favourite.

Don’t:

  • Get your hopes up about the ColourIQ foundation matcher… hypothetically, if you’re super pale it won’t be able to get a reading...

SHERENE

Do:

  • Check out YouTube first. Some of the products you might like or want to purchase may have already be reviewed there.

Don’t:

  • Try everything on all at once. More likely than not you’ll never actually want what you try or really need it.
