QUICK FACTS
Type of food: Ukrainian-Polish (it’s literally just pierogis)
Available: Restaurant locations, UberEats
Okay, so I grew up, and Rachel and I went to high school in Little Ukraine in Toronto, so we love us some pierogis - but it also means we’re pretty particular about the quality of our pierogis. Spoiled by too many excellent Ukrainian delis, I guess! So when a Loaded Pierogi location opened up nearby, both Rachel and I were excited but sceptical: they claim to offer gourmet pierogi options, fast. Looking over their menu, we were even more intrigued: it ranges from the classic (literally called Baba’s Classic) to the out there: Loaded Surf and Turf, Butter Chicken, Kicking Kimchi… not necessarily what you’d expect to be paired with pierogis. They offer options in terms of how you like your pierogis cooked, and have a selection of sides like sauerkraut, extra sour cream, apple smoked pulled pork, etc if you want to add a little something extra to your order. They even have dessert pierogi options, something I’ve never tried, don’t really know how I feel about but I’m willing to give them a shot sometime in the future.
The other day, we couldn’t figure out what we felt like for lunch, and while browsing UberEats, Loaded Pierogi popped up again and we figured we’d give it a shot! We’d started to order from there a couple times before but always changed our minds in favour of somewhere else, so it was time.
Ordering-wise, it was very straight-forward which is always something that’s much appreciated: there were clear descriptions of what the dishes contained, and like I mentioned earlier, gives you the option of how you would like your pierogis cooked, so you can choose between classic, crispy or half and half if you want a little of both. For our first order, we kept it pretty tame: Rachel chose the Cabbage Patch Kid, and I decided on Baba’s Classic.

While there were lots of interesting options, and some I for sure will be trying in the future, I wanted to see how their pierogis held up to a classic: Baba’s Classic features cheddar cheese, cartelized onions, green onions and sour cream.
Now, I have to admit, I am really not a fan of onions, but they’re kind of a necessary part of a classic pierogi dish so I dealt with it (mostly by moving the majority of the onions to the side, but what can you do). I decided on half and half, so half my pierogis were cooked in the classic style, while the other half were crispy. I didn’t know what to expect in terms of portion size, but I found that it was perfect. You get six good-sized pierogi in a serving, and then the topping are layered on, so it’s very filling!
The cheddar cheese was true cheddar, and the caramelized onions were beautifully done - enough so that I even ate some of them with the pierogis, instead of just having them there for flavour. I found that the classically cooked pierogi wasn’t quite as delicious as the crispy, so I’ll definitely be ordering the pierogis crispy from now on! I was impressed with just how delicious everything was in mine, and I found that the little sour cream package they sent along was the perfect amount for my taste! If you like lots of sour cream (like someone I won’t name cough-Ashley-cough) I’d definitely take advantage of their extra sour cream add-on and get at least one (or two) extra packets.
All in all, I will absolutely be ordering from them again because they managed to successfully satisfy my pierogi craving - which is going to be dangerous because there’s a location on my walk home from class… Well, maybe more like problematic. In any case, I see a lot more pierogis in my future and I’m not mad about it!

Immediately while we were looking through the menu the Cabbage Patch Kid stuck out to me. This option included, crispy fried brussel sprouts, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, sun dried tomatoes, creamy ranch dressing, sour cream and green onions. I absolutely love fried brussel sprouts but I asked for the creamy ranch dressing and green onions to be removed. I now thoroughly wish I had opted out of the sundried tomatoes as well.
While the cheddar cheese, crispy fried brussel sprouts and caramelized onions were delicious the sundried tomatoes honestly tasted like burnt rubber. They had the texture to match. I'm normally not a picky eater at all, and even if I don't like something I'm not one to pick things out of my food. But, I quickly scooted all the sundried tomatoes to the side. Careful not to get their weird rubber juice on anything else.
I chose the crispy option for all my pierogis, and that 100% was the right option. They were perfectly crispy but still silky in the middle. Thankfully, Meg had ordered an extra sour cream that she didn't end up needing. If you prefer a lot of sour cream like ASHLEY (I'm not as polite as Meg) or you can picture yourself putting sour cream on all the toppings in your order I would suggest getting at least one extra pack.
Overall, I would order from here again. Pierogis and I have close personal relationship and having the delivered to my door is a magical experience. I will most likely order something different next time, or if I do choose the same I will be leaving the sundried tomatoes off.
